What is a B&B?

What is a B&B? It's not like a hotel or an inn. For one thing, every B&B is different. They are as different as their owners are. Indeed, the difference between them makes staying at B&Bs exciting and fun. But sometimes not knowing what to expect can cause a problem.

Typically, a bed and breakfast is the home of your hosts, and your hosts are people who enjoy sharing their home with others. The B&B owners live in one, private part of the house and the guest bedrooms are in another. Most B&Bs are small, mom-and-pop businesses that have from 2-5 bedrooms. Often, guests in two bedrooms will share a bathroom, just as you might do when visiting friends or relatives.

Unlike the anonymity of a hotel, a B&B usually provides a warm, friendly environment in which you can meet other guests as well as your hosts; also, your hosts can help you find and enjoy the special features of the area. On the other hand, privacy is highly valued at a B&B, and you are perfectly free to keep to yourself, or to lose yourself in the romance of a private twosome.

At any B&B, you should expect a clean environment, access to a bathroom, a bed with linens, clean towels, and a breakfast of some sort. From there on in, the details are as varied as are the personalities of Tom, Dick, and Jane. B&Bs range from the rustic and homey to the antique and historic to the exceedingly posh.

What should you expect at
Whispering Pines B&B?

Comfort and relaxation are highly prized at Whispering Pines. Our place is casual and features natural beauty. You are free to come and go whenever you like - we don't impose a curfew! (But we might ask you to turn off the porch lights when you come in at night.) Our home, with its deep front porch and grassy yard, is surrounded on all sides by the luminous quiet of the woods.

Relaxation is key to our breakfast, too. We think "getaway" means not having to get up in the morning! That's why we leave our self-serve breakfast out from 8:30 until 11:00 a.m., so you can sleep late if you want to. Our cornucopia buffet gives you a lot to choose from: freshly made bagels, 3 kinds of cream cheese, five or six kinds of cereals, local fresh fruit, berries, melons, hard boiled eggs, English muffins, bagel chips, specialty hard cheeses, gourmet jams, coffee cake, sweet muffins, coffee, tea, milk, and orange juice.

Our breakfast buffet is served on Saturday, Sunday, and holiday mornings.  Please note that we serve a Continental Breakfast on weekday mornings.

Your room is your private domain, and we do not intrude upon it. When you check in, you will find your room and bathroom freshly cleaned, the bed made with fresh linens, and a set of fresh towels in your room. Should you stay with us for a while, fresh towels will be left outside your door every other day. Linens are changed once a week, but fresh sheets are left in your room in case you need to change them. Your bathroom will be supplied with toilet tissue, soap and shampoo, but not with a hairdryer or other bathroom supplies. Our housekeeper tidies the rooms and checks the supplies every Saturday. And of course, if you need anything, all you have to do is ask.

To sum up, if you're looking for the comfort of a firm bed and the luxury of a squishy couch in front of a living room fire, if you like things lovely but casual, if you are looking for quiet mornings, unspoiled nature, a friendly and relaxing home-away-from-home, if you find beauty in the sun slanting over a warm oak floor, then you will find what you are looking for and more at Whispering Pines Bed and Breakfast.
